My home faire is the Maryland Renaissance Festival, working for various crafters, one regrettable year officiating at the piglet races (mercifully now defunct), and for 7 years with Catskill Mountain Moccasins.
After 12 years straight, I decided to hang up my full-time ren hat, took a season off, and found that I desperately missed it--not so much the dust, the heat, the rain, the bitter cold, the sheer exhaustion (all of which are abundant at any given time)--but rather the people, the community, the SOUL of the faire.  I visited the (also now defunct) Virginia Renaissance Festival a few times in 1999, teaching myself to ENJOY a faire again...allowing myself to have a good time without being (too) cynical...and trying not to feel like I was in "work clothes" when in garb. Faith
Now, I enjoy both working AND playing at faire, though I think the secret for me will be not to work the whole time.  MDRF has such a lovely site, and the Festival played an important part of my growing up (that all-important growing up we do AFTER we leave home, thinking we know it all, and discover that we know exactly nothing).  I look forward to autumn every year.
I'm one third of In Our Cups, a bawdy taverny feathery trio. We debuted at MDRF in 2001, and have performed at the Carolina Renaissance Festival and the Virginia Renaissance Festival. Vanity, Serendipity and Felicity (c'est moi) will be performing weekends this spring at the 2003 Virginia Renaissance Festival.  Come out and get your Cup fill (and take us home in a box)!
